what is Kybella?

Just a small amount of extra fat in the upper throat area may create the presence of a "double chin" that is unattractive for both women and men. The additional pockets of fat beneath the chin (also known as the submental area) can be caused by genetics, weight fluctuations, or aging that lead to a softer jawline and chin for a less defined profile. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Roberto Garcia is proud to introduce a revolutionary, noninvasive method for the reduction of neck fat at Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery. Approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), Kybella is a new nonsurgical treatment for upper neck fat. The active component in Kybella is a manmade version of deoxycholic acid, which works similarly to the body's natural DA to dissolve and absorb fat cells. After it's injected below the chin, you will see a visible decrease in the volume of fat. When the fat is eliminated, the cells do not return so you can enjoy your new slimmer neck and jawline for years to come.

who is an ideal Candidate for kybella?

The ideal candidates for Kybella treatments have excess fat in the upper throat (submental area), which creates unwanted fullness or a double chin. This injection addresses resistant sections of fat that can't be minimized with usual weight loss techniques due to genetics, aging, and several other conditions. If you are at or near a healthy, stable weight, but exercise and diet have not worked to remove the fat in your neck, Kybella may be the correct procedure for your needs. While Kybella may treat small or moderate pockets of fat in the upper neck, larger pockets of fat may be better suited for surgical neck liposuction at Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery.

Kybella Procedure Technique

Kybella is completed during an appointment in one of our treatment rooms. Dr. Garcia or one of our skilled injectors can apply a numbing cream to the treatment area, if requested, once the skin is cleansed. The injection session will last around 15 minutes and includes a series of multiple small injections into the upper neck area. Most patients will need only a single treatment to achieve their desired goal while other patients may require several injections spaced three weeks apart.

What can i Expect after kybella?

Kybella treatments do not need general anesthesia so you can leave our office when you are ready to return to your usual routine. You may experience short-term swelling, numbness, or bruising beneath your chin; however, this shouldn't last more than 2 – 3 days. Contact Contoura Facial Plastic Surgery right away if you are feeling any unusual symptoms, like difficulty swallowing, facial muscle weakness, or if your facial expressions are uneven. While the fat cells that are eliminated do not regenerate, the cells that remain can get larger so you must keep a stable weight after your Kybella treatments to keep new pockets of fat from developing. Ideal results after this procedure leave your neck appearing tighter and slimmer, and your neckline will be better defined.

Frequently Asked Questions about kybella

How much does Kybella cost?
Your costs for Kybella will vary based on the number of sessions you need. In your initial consultation, a personalized Kybella treatment plan will be developed to fit your budget and goals. A team member will also talk about payments we accept in your first appointment.

How does Kybella work?
Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, is designed to break down fat cells in the submental area. Once the fat cells are eliminated, these cells cannot regenerate.

Can Kybella be used to treat other areas of the body?
Right now, Kybella can only be used to treat the submental area. Kybella can effectively minimize the look of a double chin. Kybella hasn't been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for any other areas of the face or body.

Am I eligible for a Kybella treatment?
Before your consultation, you will answer a few questions to make sure you are a candidate for Kybella treatments. You need to be at least 18 years old, not breastfeeding or pregnant, and you should not have an active infection in or around your neck. Before the procedure is performed, you are encouraged to be open about your medical history and health concerns so we can determine if you may be at risk for an adverse reaction from the treatment.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
During your initial consultation, a personalized Kybella treatment plan will be developed to match your goals. Typically, patients get between two and four Kybella injections to achieve their goals. Kybella injections need to be made around 30 days apart. You shouldn't receive any more than six injections.
