It may be best to begin with injectable fillers to understand how your lips will look after augmentation surgery. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER LIP AUGMENTATION?

It is important to pay attention to the recovery instructions given by the Contoura team to expedite healing and amplify results. After either a nonsurgical or surgical lip enhancement, your mouth will most likely feel tender or sore for several days.

If you had a SMAS augmentation with a facelift, you should expect your entire face to be tender also. Cold packs and pain relievers are suggested to address any swelling and discomfort. The improvements from nonsurgical lip augmentation may be visible for about 3 – 12 months based on the technique selected for your procedure. Lip augmentation surgery will give you long-lasting improvements.

WHAT METHOD DOES OUR LIP AUGMENTATION TEAM USE?

The approach taken during the procedure will vary, depending on the chosen course of treatment:

Dermal Fillers

Minimally invasive lip enhancement may be achieved with dermal fillers, such as Restylane or Juvéderm. Injections can be done in one of our treatment rooms as an outpatient procedure. Based on the brand of dermal filler selected, a local anesthetic may be part of the formula or else a numbing cream may be applied to the treated area. Once your lips are cleaned, multiple injections will be administered in the selected areas and then the filler will be massaged to provide optimal results. You will be allowed to leave immediately after your treatment to continue your regular routine.

SMAS Lip Augmentation

Typically done in conjunction with a facelift procedure, SMAS lip augmentation requires the use of muscle tissue that needs to be harvested prior to your lip procedure. Dr. Garcia will carefully extract this tissue in one piece so that he can carefully use it for the surgery. Once the tissue harvesting is complete, small incisions will be made on each corner of your mouth where Dr. Garcia will create small pockets within the top and lower lips to allow for the tissue to be inserted. This procedure is typically done under local or IV sedation anesthesia and takes around three hours to complete when combined with a facelift.

Lip Implants

A thin incision will be created at the corner of the lips so the implant(s) can be inserted. It can take weeks for swelling to subside and the implant(s) to settle into position; however, implants in the lips will give you improvements that last for years.
