Hi. I'm Dr. Roberto Garcia, and I want to talk to you today about what impacts upper eyelid aging can have on the face. When we're younger, we have perfectly round shaped orbital bones. As we age, those bones begin to reshape themselves and the eye changes shape. As a result of that, you start noticing loosening and sagging and bulges around the eyes. If you think about what the sagging is, it's actually skin that's lost collagen. As a result, the skin becomes less tight, hangs more, and you get hooding over the eyes. As a result of the hooding over the eyes, the face starts compensating by raising the eyebrows in this manner. That causes deeper lines in the forehead.
The treatment is simple. A simple removal of eyelid skin with a little fat shaping can make a dramatic difference in the shape of the upper eyelid. This is a procedure that I perform roughly five to six times weekly with excellent results. The lower eyelids are different because as you age, fat pockets have fallen forward, but at the same time, you've hollowed underneath. When I created the contour procedure, it was designed to put volume under the eyes and take fat and reshape it. I hope that this clarifies what upper and lower eyelid surgery can do.
